“Peace is the future” project in progress

23 October - “Peace is the future” project in progress...

The second phase of the project “Peace is the Future” took place at the University for Foreigners of Perugia.

On Monday 12 October the University welcomed a delegation from the Comboni College of Science and Technology, a key partner in an international collaboration initiative focused on training, dialogue, and peacebuilding.

Following a meeting with Professor Federica Guazzini (the project’s scientific coordinator) and Professor Chiara Biscarini (Rector’s Delegate for Research), the faculty members were received by Rector Valerio De Cesaris and Pro-Rector Francesco Asdrubali in
the Great Hall (Aula Magna) of Palazzo Gallenga for an official welcome.

During the following two weeks, faculty and technical-administrative staff from the College participated in training activities and discussions covering research, teaching quality, digital innovation and internationalization.

The program also included visits to iconic historical and cultural sites in Perugia and Assisi.

The CCST delegation visited the city of Assisi on 16 October and met the vice-major, Veronica Cavallucci, who introduced the values of the spirituality of St. Francis that still today orientate the life of the city. The focus was put on the relation of St.
Francis with nature, his encounter with al-Malik al-Kamil, Sultan of Egypt in 1219 and the meaning of this encounter for peace building.

At the end of the encounter, the Dean of the College, Prof. Ibrahim Mohamed Al-Faki, received a book about the city offered by the vice-major.

This is an experience of mutual exchange and growth that strengthens academic cooperation, fosters intercultural dialogue, and contributes to spreading a culture of peace.

A second group of activities of the project is executed by Communita di Sant’Egidio and Fondazione Nigrizia. A group of Sudanese community leaders, influencers and members of the Supreme Council for Social Peace will attend some workshops about peace building,
reconciliation and fight against hate speech.

The project is funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy.
