Human Rights and Nursing Award for PhD Halima Ali

PhD Halima Ibrahim Malik Ali, program coordinator of the BSc in Nursing Sciences at Comboni College of Science and Technology and Director of the Comboni Palliative Care Nursing Clinic in Port Sudan, received on August 28 the 2026 Human Rights and Nursing Award “for her exceptional courage and commitment to providing free palliative care during the Sudan conflict” along with Prof. Josephine Etowa (School of Nursing, University of Ottawa).
The Human Rights and Nursing Award celebrates nurses whose work fosters international respect for human rights, dignity, and care for vulnerable populations.

The award ceremony took place at the Nursing Ethics and International Ethics in Care Conference organized by the Faculty of Nursing of the University of Regina (Canada) in collaboration with the international Editorial Board of the journal Nursing Ethics. The complexity of the procedures to travel to Canada obliged Dr. Halima to attend online and receive this award that underlined her compassionate and free-of-charge care for terminal and chronic illnesses across Wad Madani, Sennar, and Port Sudan despite extreme danger and displacement following the 2023 war outbreak.
